Alternative Takes

Like many others, I'm absolutely fascinated by movies.  Now, thanks to the success of home video in its various incarnations (from Betamax to VHS to Laserdisc to DVD to Blu Ra)y, a new trend has emerged.  A good number of films that were originally released in one form theatrically have surfaced on home video in alternate versions, be they "Director's Cuts" or "Unrated editions" or sporting "Alternate Endings".

The creative forces behind these films have had the opportunity, even posthumously in one particular case, to provide audiences with these alternate versions.  Were their efforts a success?  Did the films need fixing?  And what of the films that feature "deleted scenes" as extras?  Should these scenes have remained on the cutting room floor, or were they worthy of inclusion in the final product?

Click on any of the images below to find a discussion of the films I feel are worthy of this analysis, for better or worse.  The opinions, as they say, are the author's.
